I think the central air control is only one too. Should I install additional thermostat on the renting unit and better separate the meters. The house is located in Stanton Island NY
Duplexes don't have to be separately metered.
If you're the owner, you should try to get them separated though - that way you can charge all the utilities back to the tenants, increase your cashflow and incentivize not abusing the free utilities.
@Clark Kirkpatrick Hey Clark, I know the best way is to separate the meter, I don’t know the extract process on installing them. Or do you have any idea about the estimated cost for it?
You'll have to get in contact with the company that provides your utilities. They should be able to point you in the right direction. I don't think that you can just hire a regular electrician to separately meter your electricity, for example. In my area, that's all through the utility company.
