How to Enhance Your Business by Attracting Like-Minded Team Members

Focus on what you know; attract people that know the rest.” – Engelo Rumora

Ever since I was a kid, I was able to have a clear and intense vision of what I wanted. My own ability to see myself through to the end result, along with my family’s support, have pushed me forward. My drive is achieved though my vision. My two most recent BiggerPockets blog posts were about developing goals and managing them with a daily routine. This week, I share with you the vision: how to ignite big picture thinking to produce results in yourself and others.

In this day and age, we are surrounded by experts and gurus who claim to know the path to your financial freedom. What they really know is how to sell an image. They understand that the large majority will never read or listen to the book and CD purchased at their seminars, but because the time is right and the deal has been baited so thoroughly, you just can’t say no. Now imagine taking that same excitement; that same, much easier-to-digest knowledge — and using it to attract more people just like you.

Finding Like-Minded Support

After all, the only way to grow your business is to have people who not only provide support, but also provide feedback that in turn pushes the business forward. This is something you typically don’t get from the “off-the-street” employee. Most people are content to be in their situation. They may want more, but are not willing to do anything out of the ordinary to make it happen.

The real hungry people out there are willing to step outside of their comfort zone. They are willing to take on risk and, at times, even fail. Thomas Edison said it best: “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” These are the exact people that you want to surround yourself with. Your vision is going to get them the success they always wanted, but somehow fell short of.

Think like the expert — because you are — and paint the picture. Imagine where you want to be in 2-3 years and write down 3 main points that back it up (for example: $5m in assets, producing $500k in income, achieved in 5 years). Just like I mentioned in the blog about goals, post it everywhere. Allow it to sink in, believe in it and read it out loud everyday. That exact vision of where you want to be and what you are doing now to make it happen is your ticket to finding people just like you — people who share the same dreams and goals.

Communicating Your Vision

Now that you have all of this down and understand your vision forward and back, communicate it to everyone: The people at the store in the check-out line. The teller at the bank who asks you how your day is going. Write it on all of your social media platforms, and share it with your entire family.

Please understand this: you will get knocked down by people who tell you your vision cannot be accomplished. They will tell you that you should quit and take fewer risks. The ones who are content in their lives will tell you that you’re on the wrong path. That’s great because you just found the people you don’t want near your vision because they just want to replace it with their own version of, well, nothing!

As you continue to communicate this image of the future (and partly the present), you will meet those who perk up and get excited. They will want to know and hear more of your dream. They have a shine in their eye that shows genuine attention. At some point, they will begin to share with you their dreams and will want to go for coffee to chat some more because they are hungry for the opportunity to be more and do more.

With these mini commercials you keep broadcasting, people will also find you. Successful people who have already been where you are, kept going through the mistakes, and want to help move you and your passion forward, will contact you. They will offer to mentor or partner with you. I’ll tell you this: stay confident and don’t be shy. Unfortunately, we are taught from a very young age that money and success are limited in the world. That in order to get where you want, you’ll need to go to the best schools and get the best grades and compete for the best jobs. This is NOT true. Success and money are just as limitless as your own dreams and goals. The very wealthy know this. They know that once you reach out and commit yourself and focus on the little things that continue to add up, the larger picture will fall into place.

Conclusion

At the age of 14, I quit school to follow my dreams. I have never looked back. Oh, have I failed, but I have always kept pushing forward. Twelve months ago I was eating peanut butter off a teaspoon just to stay alive. By broadcasting my vision, my group formed and we have all benefitted. Today, we have 4 companies, each in their own stage of development, as well as several mentors. We have a team that shares the dream.

I invite you to share your dream below.

How do you broadcast your vision? What did you learn from your recent failure?

Let’s talk in the comments below!
