A Decade of Real Estate Insight: The BiggerPockets Blog Turns 10!

by | BiggerPockets.com

What do a bottle of fine wine, your favorite pair of blue jeans and the BiggerPockets blog have in common? They all get better with age, of course!

It’s hard to believe that it’s been TEN years (to the day!) since we posted this first article about the rising popularity of real estate investing and this one about the projected rise of Harlem, NY. Back then, BiggerPockets was a one-man show, and while I didn’t necessarily know all the ins and outs of blogging, I knew I wanted to create a space where investors (and aspiring investors) could come to learn about every aspect of real estate. More than just a static space where articles would sit archived, I wanted to create a community where entrepreneurs were encouraged to interact with one another, and to gather the knowledge they needed to empower their financial journeys.

As of the writing of this post, the BiggerPockets blog has published 6,138 articles, which have received more than 22 million views collectively.

Our articles have garnered almost 62,000 comments. We currently have over 30 regular writers contributing content on everything from epic construction project fails to complete step-by-step instructions on how to quit your job to invest in real estate.

In honor of 10 years of BiggerPockets blogging — 10 years’ worth of countless real estate tips from some of the brightest real estate minds — we want to thank all of our readers, writers and anyone who has ever contributed an opinion, story, or tip to our comments sections. Please stick around with us for the next 10 years!

What are your favorite BP blog posts of all time? What would you like to see covered on the blog that hasn’t been?

Leave your comments below, and thanks to all of our readers for making the BP blog a great community!

Joshua Dorkin

Joshua Dorkin (@jrdorkin, Google+) founded BiggerPockets.com when he saw a need for free, trustworthy information about real estate investing online. Over the past 12 years, Josh has grown the site from self-funded hobby to full-time job and passion. Today, BiggerPockets brings together over 850,000 members, housing the world’s largest library of real estate content, iTunes’ #1 real estate podcast, and an array of analysis tools, all geared toward helping users succeed.

  1. Congratulations Josh! This website and your podcast are the impetus behind my small investment in real estate which I hope to eventually grow to a portfolio. To many more years!

  2. Bob Ebaugh

Josh, I’m a relative newbie. But what a great website! Thanks for all your hard work to make Bigger Pockets what it is today. The most unbiased and best place to share ideas and get help in the RE community today. Bob

  3. Karin DiMauro

Congratulations! I hope you take some time to celebrate. This site is a game-changer in the industry.

It’s hard to pin down a favorite blog post. One of my favorite forum threads, though, had to do with a woman who ran into problem tenants on a vacation rental. The BP community rallied and helped to get her some measure of justice in dealing with professional scammers and a less-than-responsive corporation. I truly don’t believe the story would have had such a good, and swift, ending had it not been for the BP site. So thanks for following through on your vision 10 years ago!

Congrats and thank YOU! Matt and I are so incredibly honored to be part of this community as weekly bloggers!! I just wanted to thank you for all your hard work and dedication you have put into this website over the past 10 years. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t tell someone about BP. I really wish we found this site years ago when we started in real estate. We started investing in real estate the same time you started BP! Thank you for what you do and more importantly what you stand for. I just listened to the episode 100 when Brandon interviewed. All I have to say is “wow” – I wish more people had your level of integrity and authenticity.
Thank you for inspiring millions! Keep up the amazing work!!!

Wow, congrats guys. Its amazing how far you’ve come. Starting as 1 guy and now one of the biggest and easily one of the best sites for real estate info. Glad you guys are here, such useful content. Keep it up!

  6. Wow!! Has it been that long? Congrats on turning 10, Josh!

I clicked on the link to both of the earlier posts. Guess I missed them!

Personally, I’ve enjoyed the stories. When a writer can match experience with advice, it’s the best of both worlds. I’ve also found a few entertaining writers via the BP blog who I enjoy reading on a regular basis. Humor and laughter are sometimes hard to come by via the written word especially when it comes to topics that others may consider dry. I really enjoy how some writers here use their personality to bring their posts to life.

    Here’s to the next 10 years! 🙂

Congratulations Josh! Real estate sure has been on a wild ride over the last 10 years.
Some of Brandon’s posts come to mind as favorites for sure. I also especially appreciate the posts about goal setting and why we do this crazy thing called investing in the first place. It is important to keep the “why” front and center when there are bumps in the road!

  8. Chad Carson

Congrats on 10 Years! I’m honored to be a part of this awesome community and more particularly the great group of blog contributors. Thanks for the opportunity, Josh! I’m constantly amazed how the community keeps getting better and better. Like another commenter above said, I find myself telling people about the site or sending them over here every day.

I like a lot of the other blog posts, but I enjoy Jeff Brown’s old school wisdom and wit. Ben Leybovich’s sensational $30,000 house posts that never die and generate 160+ comments are also entertaining.
