“In a gentle way, you can shake the world.” — Mahatma Gandhi

Can real estate investors really change the world? The answer is yes and no. You can choose to be a real estate investor who looks out only for yourself, with a goal of ONLY making money. Yes, I know real estate investors like this. This post is not for them. And if this is you, move on, and don’t watch this video!

However, if you are like me and my husband, you want to make money AND make a difference. In this week’s post, I share three ways that real estate investors can make a difference, which include: 1) focusing your energy on a community, 2) doing right by your tenants, and 3) passing it along.

I hope you find value in this video and that it inspires you along your path of real estate investing to make a difference, too!

    Powerful!

    “Focus on the community.”

    “Do right by your tenants.”

“Pass along what you have learned.” What I like to call “Paying it forward.”

“Make a difference; leave a legacy.”

    I am currently mentoring someone.

A good chunk of my RE earnings goes to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

That’s sounding like bragging, so I’ll shut up.

    Good stuff!

    Thank you, Elizabeth!

    James,
LOVE that you are mentoring someone and giving some of your earnings to a hospital. That is what this business is all about. One of my dreams is to start a foundation! Hopefully I will be able to make this happen sooner than later! 🙂
And you are not bragging at all!!! Good for you!
    Thanks for sharing!

    Thanks for this.
Focusing on a community is huge. Shelter is very important to life, and real estate investors provide that. As a CPA I am humbled by that notion; I can’t say that about what I do.

One of my contacts has a speech he delivers to all new tenants. He reminds them that on good days and bad days they will come home to what he has “sold” them; so he makes sure that everything works everyday the way it did when they leased the property. He also makes houses look good so people will want to come home to them. Surely, someone who does this on a block can change the community by bringing in better quality tenants who will be better quality neighbors!

  4. Thanks Elizabeth. Love your video and your ideas. Right up my alley. Exactly what I will do as soon as I am able. I am a very new investor right now, but looking forward to help others and pass on what I can. Where else can I hear about your teachings please?

Love the perspective Liz! We are definitely keeping those points in mind as we move forward with our investing and can certainly attest first hand about you sharing information and paying it forward. Thanks again for generosity!

This is a great video and topic and something that we should all be talking about with others. Share what you’ve learned! I’ve found incredible satisfaction in working closely with Habitat for Humanity to help leverage the knowledge and skills that i have both professionally and from a real estate perspective. I’m happy to say that Habitat helped almost 200 families in Illinois last year in its mission to eliminate poverty housing.
