When you have the 1st & 2nd floor exterior walls insulated you need insulation between them in the floor joist area only along the perimeter and it only has to come in as far as the thickness of the framed walls.

I have seen one that ran the entire perimeter of the lot, with T's that would have been for faucets at various points that went all the way to the road (Maybe model T's needed a lot of water?

I brought in a couple loads of loam and regraded the area around the perimeter of the house so it now slopes away from the building instead of towards it.

They can place bait around the perimeter of the property to prevent termites from ever reaching the structure.
