Looking to dialoguge on this topic so let me begin by saying this; I do not believe that we should have an open border, however in a country where we enjoy the melting pot status, where Ellis Island brought in the ancestors of some of our finest citizens, where none of us originated here, and also where we brought in millions against their will(slavery), I think it only fitting that we work to make a way that people from south of the border can come here and enjoy the fruits of this nation just like those who came from Europe, Asia and elsewhere.

Voters vote for representatives who then do what they feel is in the best interest of their constituency (in theory, at least).There are plenty of examples where voters may not have voted for some specific change in law if given the chance, but where our representatives have done it anyway (for example, the general public probably wouldn't have voted to abolish slavery 150 years ago, but our elected officials still passed the 13th Amendment).

I participated as the main contributor to the international forum but I didn't know they were going to abolished so I couldn't advise them against it.I imagined that they did that because of the low participation but that might change as I've noted a huge increase in interest in international investing lately, which makes sense given that the US is losing its advantage when it comes to cheap financing.
