This is actually also a benefit sometimes if you plan to take an active roll in the association you might have more control over turning around or improving an ailing condo association.

I suppose them a lender could have the sale overturned if they figured it out..  

If the sale was not done legitimately, the sale will be overturned. 

While the city council’s societal heart may be in the right place (for the tenants getting priced out of the Seattle) the onslaught of recent ordinances (1st in time application - challenged and overturned in Court, limits on move-in costs / pet fees, no criminal checks, etc.) these have in many cases encroached and/or completely ignored landlord/property owner rights and create such complex regulations that it is in many cases not feasible or cost effective for small mom & pops to manage their own properties, so they reach out to pros and pass the costs along to the tenants.

I have seen a TCB sale in a different county overturned by the TCB because there was a court order to postpone the sale, and the TCB did not postpone - that is another sort of screw up that the TCB will perform ;)This sale might have been under the automatic stay of the BK courts - so the TCB would not have been allowed to sell, and it should have been postponed if that is the case.

Try to reach out for the owner who defaulted the loan, promise to compensate him and ask him to appeal the sale and over turn it.

But the law doesn't say if its a small amount then the sale is easier to overturn. 

The closing agent obviously missed it, but he was not in the room when I brought it up.Fast forward 1 month after closing - after busting my tail working nights and weekends over Christmas and New Years I have the place rented out - and now I'm going over my budget numbers and they aren't adding up - I'm about $1000 over.

I'm sure a similar challenge in your jurisdiction would see it overturned.
