I believe VRBO estimated that their average homeowner spends around 8 hours a week self-managing, so if you have the time and energy to self-manage (and depending on how you value your time), it may be worth it - especially if you're going to be traveling. 

Short Term For the remainder of the 2015 calendar year, we plan on wholesaling 6 properties with an estimated profit of $5000-$10,000 per deal.

I still feel our price was right and we estimated costs well.
