Unless you really believe the Ann Arbor market will appreciate drastically in the next few years, or plan to move back or have a child move in or similar, I think you may find better appreciation (especially if willing to accept cash negative or similar) in the San Diego market.

I was invested in multi-family, but like ss much better because it's just steel and concrete...the tenants can't damage it and no one ever calls me at 6am complaining that their child flushed a toy down the toilet like you get in multi-family.
