I have started door knocking with Pre-Foreclosure leads for about 1 week.

I've took interest in pre-foreclosure and wholesaleing with creative financing like "subject to" to hopefully get a foot in the door. 

After purchase, Id just go knock on the doors and introduce yourself.

I take it to mean alley/garage apartments in nicer areas that were set up often for domestic help, kids, or mother in laws.
