If you power wash you may have to wait a long time for the water to evaporate out of the wood.

I am working on a rehab right now, and I just received a letter from a law office stating that their client was injured on my property by a "piece of wood which was unsecured" when it "fell and struck her on the head."

While the wrapping will work to protect the exterior wood trim to some extent, it will also hide any ongoing damage until it gets really, really expensive to fix.

Kerosene is pricey, but cleaner burning than fuel oil.
