This depends on each persons situation - but for us we have it spread in multiple different liquidity paths (markets, CD's etc) with some liquid and some illiquid but we also have a LOC that we do not touch and use as a "in case of emergency break glass" type of situation - and if we have to use it then we will liquidate one of our accounts to pay it down.

From my experience title companies in community property states require the spouse to sign away their interest using a quitclaim deed if the property is in their personal name.

I've purchased my own home without a mortgage and I own all of my vehicles with no debt.

@Srinivasa Subramanian  I started screening upfront for number of vehicles and number and type of animals.  

Just think, if you or someone you know, parks their car in your driveway, that vehicle can be identified.

They also alert me of suspicious people/vehicles or if the power went out.In some cases, I offer to do minor repairs to their house, or at a minimum have my maintenance guy clean their yard or cut their grass for free.
