I grew up with a father who briefly owned his own construction company. I worked on more projects with him than I care to admit. Those skills translated into a handymanish living. I've done several projects for friends and family. A few years ago I started doing small projects for small fees. Eventually, I ran into a friend who allowed me to pay a minimal fee and work on a property he owned. I fully renovated the property myself. Wiring, plumbing, construction...fully. I purchased the property at the before fix up cost, invested my sweat equity, expertise, and money. Now the property is fully rented and I am in the process of leveraging that property to do another. I've owned a duplex (poorly done, and lessons learned!), rented a house in Virginia Beach for two years (from a distance), and now have a rental that's going well. I want to find homes I can afford and add value to so I can rent, remortgage and reinvest...that's me.
