I am a retired school teacher - English and History - and am looking into the purchase of a property management franchise. My parents were property developers in the 70's and 80's, and I helped them sell real estate in one of their developments in the early 80's. but went back to teaching and let my real estate license lapse. I took time off from teaching to work for a local newspaper, which eventually went downhill financially. When I went back into teaching, I did not have enough consecutive years in education to receive a pension.
