I've been in corporate america for my entire career...23+ years and have come to the realization that if I really want to get ahead, I'm going to have to do something different. I re-married about 3 years ago and when we combined households, we ended up renting her house for a couple of years. It was a very good experience for us with the renter paying over our asking rent price and eventually buying the property. Based on our success with that transaction, we decided to try to buy a multi-family rental unit as an investment in the St. Louis area earlier in 2016. After having our offer accepted, we spend about $1,000 for inspections only to conclude that the property need too much work. We backed out and have been hesitant to re-engage.
