My husband and I started investing in small apartments in the Dayton, OH area in 2003. I have a day job in software development, but my husband's job is managing our three apartment buildings and overseeing a SF rehab. I do our day-to-day bookkeeping for our businesses. I am also a fiction writer and own my own (very) small publishing company. Experience: We bought our first investment property, a quadplex, in 2003. We bought a 16-unit building in 2007, and a second quadplex in 2014. We've also held a SFH and a student rental house. The latter made good money, but we prefer to focus on our niche, which is Class B/C multifamily. We self-managed all our properties for several years until we purchased in eastern TN before moving there ourselves. Real Estate Goals: To learn more about making the most of our investments - we knew so little about real estate investing when we bought our buildings! Luckily we had a good agent who found some great properties that met our needs here in Dayton, Ohio. Ultimately, we want to own 2-3 small apartments of between 20-50 units in Knoxville, TN with a total NOI of at least $100,000 that can provide retirement income when paid down/off. Currently Seeking: We are in the process of relocating to Knoxville, TN, and currently own two small apartment complexes in nearby areas. We would like to add another to our portfolio sometime in the next few years.
