In 2011, my wife Martha and I made the decision to someday leave the big metropolitan cities of Dallas and Austin, TX and move to Las Cruces where we purchased a property that would be our home once we moved. Because we weren’t quite ready to move yet when we purchased this first home in Las Cruces, we decided to do a few renovations to the home and leased it to a local family. As fate would have it, an opportunity arose 60 days later to purchase a multi-family property in the heart of the Alameda Historic District. It was a 1940’s four-plex that was in desperate need of extensive renovation and lots of tender loving care. We decided to purchase the property, renovate, and hold it. We made several discoveries about ourselves: We love renovating older properties; We could generate passive income via rental properties; and We wanted to renovate only properties that we could see ourselves living in. Quality is very important to us. We have the “gift” of seeing beyond the distressed condition of a property when it comes to creating floor plans for new (and old) properties. Most important though is that we want to provide our customers (Tenants) with a place that at the end of the day they do not feel like they are just coming home to a place they are renting - but instead they are coming home to a place that truly feels like home to them. This has been our key to retaining long term Tenants in all of our properties.
