Selecting the Correct Home Builder (Article 1)

4728Building a new home can be one of the largest single investments you may ever endure.  It can also call for undue stress.   Having the right builder means enjoying the process instead of running into problems that might require arbitration or attorney services.  One of the biggest downfalls I have seen with unhappy homebuyers is the huge cost overcharges.  I hope that after the next several months of articles, you will be more knowledgeable and equipped to ask the correct questions with your potential builder.  Well-educated knowledge can provide you with the correct answers that keep a happy relationship from the start of the construction process to the “turnkey” finish.

Next article will be a quick article on cost overrun. (Article 2)

Remodeling activity increases in 2010BuildFax Remodeling Index shows 18 percent jump over 2009
By Kate Cline, Housing Zone contributing editor
February 16, 2011
Remodeling activity increases in 2010Residential remodeling activity increased in 2010, showing gains for the 14th straight month, as many homeowners continue to choose remodeling over purchasing a new home.Residential remodeling activity grew 18 percent nationwide between December 2009 and December 2010, according to the latest BuildFax Remodeling Index, a monthly index based on building permits filed with local building departments across the country. All regions in the U.S. except for the Midwest showed year-over-year increases in remodeling activity. The Midwest index decreased by less than one percent. The West had its highest numbers in index history, while the South had a four-year high.

BuildFax also released its 2010 Year in Review, which reported that remodeling activity in 2010 resembled what 2008 could have looked like if the housing market had not collapsed.

Palin Criticized for Praying to God, Obama Given a Pass for Playing God

 http://ssr09.savannahsquarehomes.com/index.php/billys-blog

When Sarah Palin recently cited the legendary C.S. Lewis and the phrase “divine inspiration” in the same sentence during a Barbara Walters interview, liberal talking heads went apoplectic. MSNBC’s Richard Wolffe thought there were a lot of things Palin could have read besides C.S. Lewis if “divine inspiration” was the goal, and The View’s Joy Behar mocked her for reading books that were (supposedly) written for children. Such desperate and unprofessional commentary from Wolffe and Behar is undone by the fact that millions upon millions of people have read Lewis for divine inspiration throughout the years. Moreover, those reading him for such inspiration are adults, not children. (Sure, children do enjoy Lewis’ “Chronicles of Narnia,” but his eye-opening works like “Mere Christianity,” “The Great Divorce,” and “The Abolition of Man,” to name but a few, are so in depth that an adult must read them time and again to grasp everything that Lewis is saying.)

Judye Sellier to run for House Seat

http://ssr09.savannahsquarehomes.com/index.php/billys-blog

Former Crawford County Board of Education Chairman Judye Sellier says she will run to complete her late husband’s unexpired term in the Georgia House.

Rep. Tony Sellier died November 30 of congestive heart failure. He had won reelection to a full term on November 2nd.

“Tony’s service to the families of Middle Georgia was his calling, and he took that responsibility seriously,” Judye Sellier said. “I share Tony’s same solid commitment to those that elected him. I’m dedicated to continuing his hard work and providing leadership for our community.”

She says she consulted with her family, friends and her husband’s colleagues in the Republican Party before deciding to take up his life’s work.

“I am ready to help us tackle the issues of taxes, spending and education from the start of this session,” Sellier said. “I am asking for the support of voters to allow me to serve them. Our family has been overwhelmed with the kindnesses already shown to us; I am asking for that support to continue through this special election.”

Voters in District 136, which covers Crawford and parts of Bibb, Houston, Lamar, Monroe, Peach and Upson Counties, will return to the polls on Feb. 15 for the special election to fill Sellier’s seat.

From  Gary Kreep,

Right at this moment...

I'm just back from Juneau, Alaska, working with the Joe Miller for U.S. Senate team. His legal team has filed a lawsuit in Anchorage to stop the certification of the election of write-in candidate Lisa Murkowski, and to contest rank violations of Alaska's election law. No matter what the liberal media tells you, Don't count Constitutional conservative Joe Miller out yet. The plot by the big government establishment Republican power brokers, in concert with the Washington elites, to keep the Alaska U.S. Senate seat in liberal hands, has not been successful... YET.

Hold the Brownies! Obama Set to Sign Bill Limiting School Bake Sales

Monday, December 06

Hold the Brownies! Obama Set to Sign Bill Limiting School Bake Sales Don’t touch my brownies! A child nutrition bill on its way to President Barack Obama — and championed by the first lady — gives the government power to limit school bake sales and other fundraisers that health advocates say sometimes replace wholesome meals in the lunchroom. Republicans, notably Sarah Palin, and public school organizations decry the bill as an unnecessary intrusion on a common practice often used to raise money. “This could be a real train wreck for school districts,” Lucy Gettman of the National School Boards Association said Friday, a day after the House cleared the bill. “The federal government should not be in the business of regulating this kind of activity at the local level.” The legislation, part of first lady Michelle Obama’s campaign to stem childhood obesity, provides more meals at school for needy kids, including dinner, and directs the Agriculture Department to write guidelines to make those meals healthier.
