Alpine, CA

Alpine is a quiet community located off Interstate 8 in the county of San Diego.  Alpine is home to not only 15,000 people but hundreds of small firms, professional services and a variety of retail shops. Businesses are primarily located within the town center along Alpine Boulevard and Tavern Road.  Also off the Tavern Road Exit on Interstate 8 are two shopping complexes, the Alpine Creek Shopping Center and the Country Side Center.

Alpine has an interesting history which dates back to the early 1800’s. The “story most known” is about wealthy importer Benjamin Arnold who moved to Alpine in 1887. Because of his asthma and seeking a cure for his chronic illness, his doctors suggested that he and his wife move to Alpine because of its “Perfect Climate.”   The story states that while his health was improving, he was able to transform a stagecoach stop with thirty-five families into a permanent town. It was due to Arnold’s efforts to improve the rough roads that led to El Cajon and the trains to Lakeside.

In 1899, Arnold donated the land for the cemetery on Victoria Drive and built the Town Hall, which today is owned by the Alpine Woman's Club. After his death, his home became the Los Robles Hotel.

Presently, Alpine is the home of the Viejas Band of the Kumeyaay Indians and their Viejas Casino & Viejas Outlet Center.  There you will find dining, a bowling alley, ice skating, miniature golf, fun zone and a wide variety of shops.  Conveniently located off the Interstate 8 at the Willows Road Exit in Alpine, the Viejas Outlet Center has been national recognized for its design and landscaping.

The population of this small community has slowly grown through the years and people are lured to this rural community not only because of its climate, but also because of the picturesque foothills. Attractive homes and small ranches in rolling hills are found among the oaks, sycamores, eucalyptus and pepper trees.

Another attraction of living in Alpine is it has one of the lowest crime rates in all of San Diego County.
