Are you bidding on a website? Court House? Where do you go to bid on these sales?

If you are refering to tax sales they are sometimes live and sometimes online. They are generally done by county. Look up your county's website and search for propety taxes, tax liens tax sale or tax deeds. You can also check the legal paper for your area.

I just participated in Baltimore's tax sale last week. It is online but some counties near me still do live auctions.

Tax Deed Auctions in Texas are held on the first Tuesday of every month and are either at the county court house or the counties sheriffs office. You can call or visit the particular county your interested in to find where they have it.

As of late alot of the properties at auction have been getting bid up to its appraised value, not much of a deal there anymore because everyone knows about it.

It depends.

As this the HUD, VA and tax sale forum the responses have focused a bit on the HUD process after HUD is the owner of the property.

Auctions for RE depend on who is running the auction and why the auction is taking place. A tax lien sale will require one process and a tax deed sale will require another. A foreclosure sale will vary based on the state and legal process followed. Once HUD is an on owner they can run their own process. If a different lender is the owner they might list a property with an agent or put the property into a privately run auction.

Jonathan,
Below is a link to the website to vies homes available. You will need to submit a bid through a "HUD approved" agent for HUD homes. I recommend that you find one who has worked with many offers and has a lot of experience ( I unfortunately worked with one who didn't know what she was doing and she almost lost the house for me because she couldn't fill out the paperwork properly). You should review the "bid statistics" for the area you are interested in and that will give you an indication of some of the previous bids submitted.
