Appraiser Issue

I'm in the process of purchasing a home using a VA loan. The appraiser fund has been debited from my account but I nor the mortgage company have heard from the appraiser. The guy will not return a phone call or contact anyone. Additionally, he hasn't contacted the seller. This is in West Texas. Does anyone have any suggestions? He is holding up my purchase and I don't want the seller to get cold feet.

How long has it been?

Appraisers are pretty busy these days, so it can sometimes take a week or more from the time the appraisal is ordered until the appraiser gets out there to do the appraisal.

That said, VA is generally pretty quick, and I think they even have a rule that once the appraiser does the appraisal, they have to get it submitted within 24 hours...but not sure what the limits are on the front end of the appraisal (if any).

Your lender should be able to tell you if this is normal or not, and should have an escalation plan if things are getting out of hand. What does s/he say?
