One of my letters came back with a printed note inside: " :badwords: blah-blah, do not call or mail here anymore. A copy of your letter was sent to BBB."
I guess some people have way too much free time :groovy:
PS I counted it as a responce from the seller - bad results are results too, right ? :goofy:
I would just mark them off your list and move on. There may be some kind of law like a do not call list law, where they could fine you if you contacted them again.
Just remember to leave your real company name off of your direct mail pieces. You don't want to reveal that until you know you have a motivated seller on your hands and you surely don't want any unnecessary BBB strikes.
It resonates to my previous question ( http://forums.biggerpockets.com/viewtopic.php?t=20633 ) :groovy:
I still don't understand what would BBB do if my direct marketing piece was " reported" to them. Although who cares, I am acting legally and ethically :boring:
The BBB would do nothing if your mail piece was reported to them. Direct mail is not illegal.
I am always amazed at the people who take the time to email or call me and blow a casket about how ticked off they were that I sent them something in the mail.......it's all part of the business.
If you're a new company, I think the most likely think the BBB would do when they got that letter is to say " hey, here's a new company. Lets send them a letter asking them to join." As Primo says, nothing wrong here. There's no " BBB strike" to get. The BBB only has any ability to discipline its own members, in any case. Its not like its some government organization with any real power.
Thaanks for replies
I am not worrying at all what BBB would do, although I doubt they will even send a letter to BBB. I am amazed how these people waste their precious time - by printing responce letter (perhaps it is not that precious for them :) )
PS Once I recevied another " cute" responce to my marketing (via email): your activity will be reported to Attorney General
I have been investing for , well lets just say a long time , and have a system that will have your phone ringing off the hook with motavated sellers for pennies :superman:
Sharing info is not spam. Putting up a link to a web site that is an advertisement for your system would be spam. But, describing the system here is certainly not spam or advertising.
I love when people send stuff back or call. They save me money on future mailings. I finally found software that will eliminate these people from future lists whoosh. Oh boy people get REALLY mad when they get another letter after calling.
My favorites are the phone calls. I've had more than a couple drunk calls... man those are good ones. Normally off of signs.
I try to be EXTRA nice and sweet. It's those times... let them win.
No . . . posting an ad pitch in the middle of a conversation is SPAM. Read the forum rules that you agreed to follow when you signed up for the site, please.
As Jon suggested, why don't you tell us about this system of yours. I'm sure everyone here would appreciate some new knowledge that could be helpful.

I must really be a rookie here...i've yet to have one of those over-the-top responses. Actually, slightly miffed is about the best description of the worst response that I've received.
