Thought provoking video.  Bill Moyer says "Not to Big to Fail" - dump the big banks.  What do you think?

You may one day get your wish Ted!  Down with BOA!  They are having a ton of trouble gobbling up Countrywide right now.  I hope the acquisition sinks that ship!

No bank should be too big to fail.  I disagree with Maher blaming the banks for the whole mess, when the Fed govt was riding shotgun the whole time.  I have moved my money to smaller local banks that aren't exposed to the same risks as the big lenders.  The big banks aren't capitalized well and the FDIC is both a ponzi scheme and broke.  Better to look out for yourself than hope Uncle Sam is going to do it for you.  Citi certainly won't.

I feel more each day that the big banks and businesses ARE the gov't, but at least it's a small step that ordinary people can take to feel better about their actions and perhaps have a real impact that reaches farther than their individual ballot might...
          
          I can't see any drawbacks to the movement in any case!

Hi, just because my mom didn't see me take the apple pie, doesn't mean she had to make another one. Just because the pro big business ploiticians told regulators to slack off AND allow the big banks to carry out their business practices as they deemed appropriate does not mean they need to compensate banks for bad conduct.
FDIC is not broke, at least not until the Treasury is broke, being in debt does not mean broke from an operational standpoint. I didn't care for the big banks years ago before this mess. I have always delt on a regional and community level, so if BofA closes it's doors, that's OK with me, those assets will be taken and the vacum will be filled. IMO Bill .

Bryan, funny!  I'll remember to send you a personal invitation.  Bank of America is the "evil empire" and their arrogance shows in all areas - short sales, mortgage, and credit cards.  Although we have to give them credit for an effective lobby.

Brian, I agree the government has encouraged home ownership expansion for the past decade resulting in less restrictive mortgage qualifications.

Workerdorne, I could not agree more.  The big banks and big business ARE the government.  And the government is the big banks, and GM, and AIG.  Unlikely to change without campaign reform and lobby reform.  I saw a news article last week that documented (8) health care industry lobbyist for each member of congress.
