beijing, beijing
I am a Canadian living and working in China for decade+ now, married to a local woman.
For REI, my experience is limited, just dabbling really, but thankfully has been successful. Did a few fix and flips with my college buddies, began as a cocktail napkin "plan", but actually went quite well, till we graduated.
Did nothing more til came here, many years later. Bought a small apartment myself, got married we bought together a couple more, and then couple of resort properties. Have managed the rentals myself, except the resort ones.
Though we thought the market would move, we never anticipated China property would go like it did, the golden age, so we got very fortunate. But the age is over I believe so we have cashed out of 3.
Sitting on a bit of liquidity now, looking at doing some REI in the states.
