Undercover Landlord, Episode II

This is my journal of the journey of selling my home and moving my family into a rental.

Feb 15, 2014, my wife and I interviewed our first Realtor today. We wanted to find a person who was extremely knowledgeable of our neighborhood and current trends. We needed a person who was so knowledgeable that they could settle our arguments.

To find this person I asked Sacramento appraiser, Ryan Lundquist (BP Podcast #7) for a reference. I know my man Ryan rubs shoulders with Realtors on a daily basis; he knows exactly what I'm looking for.

So, we had Ryan's reference over for a chat. Ryan recommended a woman Realtor and I knew the chemistry between my wife and her would be the deciding factor.

I read everything I could about the candidate and was happy with her qualifications. However, my wife is an auditory learner so I asked our candidate to tell us about herself and her expertise.... then I didn't say another word for 20 minutes as she and my wife talked.

It was a good interview. If for no other reason, our first candidate confirmed to my wife everything I had already told her.

There was some talk about buying another house (remember my goal is to move my family into a rental) but the discussion ended on the conclusion that there's typically never a good time to sell a home and buy one at the same time. Not if you're trying to buy a high quality home at a steep discount. So renting, for the short term, is the way to go.

Well we are moving forward. Now waiting on our first candidate's price recommendations.

All ya'll will have to wait with me. Until next time.

  1. Al, I'm curious to see how this unfolds. Any suggestions of a similar move in my household have always been ignored or dismissed.
