Top Tips for Saving Money

It's not very difficult saving up money over a long period of time, but the struggle comes when you have to save up quite rapidly. Maybe you need to buy new car parts from National Tyres before your car fails you completely. As Valentine's Day or your girlfriend's birthday approaches, you might need that bit of extra cash saved away to buy her a gorgeous New Star Diamonds necklace. Whatever your reasons are, here are some tips to save up quickly.

Cut things out immediately

Don't wait until next month to wean yourself off your morning coffee – just think how much money you could save in a month if you put that cash into your savings account rather than into the coffee shop's till. The sooner you cut things out from your life, the sooner you'll be able to save some much-needed money.

Take on extra work

This means more effort and longer days, but it's a sure way to get some more cash in your pocket quickly. Rather than spending the extra money on buying yourself some luxuries, make sure that you save it up for the things that you need. Ask your boss if you can have some overtime, or even pick up a Saturday job or part-time shift in the evenings for a few weeks, just while you meet your savings target.

Change your bank account

A lot of banks will reward you if you switch your bank account to them instead of staying with your current bank. If it matters little to you which bank you have an account with and you need cash quickly, this is a great way to make a small lump of cash within just a few hours. Talk to the local banks in your area and ask them what kind of cash incentives they offer to people who are prepared to switch over to them.

Sell your assets

Do you have a spare car in the garage that you can sell? Do you have some designer clothes that you don't think you'll ever wear again? Make money quickly by listing them online and flogging them on sites such as eBay, Gumtree or Craigslist. Someone out there is bound to want your unwanted stuff, and it's a great way of clearing out some space too while you save up the money you make from the sales.
