hi my name is steve myers i,am from akron,ohio
i,am a 52 yr old single male with no background in real estate
i was brought here by a friend because of my interest in learning rehab and resell.
i have been trying to get something started for three yrs now but keep running into the brick wall of bad credit and poor income .
i,am currently on disabilty and want to make a change in my life,i guess my first challenge is getting my credit score to where it need to be
so i thank everyone for letting be apart of this and hope to get some good insight and info .....steve

Steve,

Welcome to BP.

Credit repair takes time. Paying bills, dealing with past mistakes and letting time help move things off your file.

In the mean time you can focus on three other aspects that have nothing to do with credit.

1. Education. Reading here and other places (lots of good books out there).

2. Developing the skills you have that relate to REI. As someone who is getting started now you must have some knowledge, skills or other things that can be applied to REI. Trade skills, knowledge of the local area or just an idle set of hands that can take on projects.

3. Networking, building contacts plus market knowledge. You need to get out there and check the market. Learn who is doing what, what prices are like and who is buying or selling.

If you focus on #1 you will find that there are deals that can be done without credit. Credit certainly helps but it is not completely required.

You should try either birddogging or wholesaling in the mean time. Both of these do not take credit or lots of money. They will both introduce you to the world of REI.
