Hello from El Paso

Hi all, I'm an Army Staff Sergeant originally from Houston, currently stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso. I've recently been accepted to Officer Candidate School, and upon completion I'll finally have enough income to start purchasing real estate. I'm 95% of the way through a degree in Finance so the business and accounting aspect of real estate should be pretty easy. On the other hand, the only knowledge that I have of purchasing real estate is a Carlton Sheets course that I purchased years ago. I'm a novice to say the least. I'll be reading though most of the threads before asking any questions so as to avoid any reposts of the same topic. I'd like to thank everyone on the site for taking time to answer questions as well as the site admin for setting up such a great resource for newbies such as myself. I look forward to communicating with all of you.

Welcome to the forum, Wakeland.

We're glad your here. It seems like you are taking the right steps to move towards investing. An understanding of the backend of finance and business management is essential to long term success in real estate. You also seem to understand that even with that knowledge it doesn't mean a hill of beans in buying property. :D

The old adage that you make your money when you buy is key to this business. Learning what, where, when, and how to buy real estate is the key to making money in this business. Read up. This site is an excellent resource to learn the many components of investing. Of course even with all the knowledge in the world, the application of that knowledge in the real world is what will give you success.

I am also in El Paso. My wife and I are shopping our first deal in town! We've been looking for about 3 months now. Its been a lot of fun running into obstacles and looking for ways to overcome them. We are getting closer and closer to more tantalizing deals! Maybe we can stay in contact. I just joined an investment club in El Paso. I can get you the information if you'd like.

Hello, I live near Bliss right now. I saw in the times about the investment club doing something in July. I also saw the library is having speakers in June and July on real estate and investing etc. Is there anything else going on here?
