Postage: First Class Stamps vs Metered

Postage: First Class Stamps vs Metered

Has anyone noticed any substantial change in response rate when shifting a mailing campaign from 44 cent first class stamps over to the metered option? My first thought is this would lower response rate a bit. Just curious if anyone has tried it and how it went.

Thanks.

My bulk mailing company can use their bulk mail rate and still use some type of an actual stamp for just a few cents more. I would check with your local bulk mailing company.

When I switched to stamps and hand written envelops my open and response rate increased quite a bit but I did both changes at the same time so don't know which had the greatest effect.

It just depends on what is most convenient for you. Your response rate may go up, but it just depends. I would look more into it and make sure you pick the one that is better for you.

I always go for the personal touch vs. corp image. Stamps and hanmdwritten envelopes all the way for me. Never tried nor would I try metered.

On the financial end, you need to either buy a postage meter or buy the self sealing stamps. The annual fee for either one is $190 and the postage meter will cost you per month. The third route is by having the USPS stamp and barcode. This costs $395 for the first year and $190 every year thereafter. For me, I would be paying about $0.28 a stamp once set up. This means I would need to mail out either 1,200 or 2,500 post cards a year to recoup my initial investment. I know some people mail this out in a month but you'll need to take that into consideration.

Michael, did we ever get your third and better option? Inquiring minds want to know! :-)
