After spending the better part of the last decade managing in the food service industry, I decided that I wasn't going to be able to achieve the life I wanted making under $20k a year. While I enjoyed what I did, the people I met, and the fact it kept me busy for 60 hours a week, it just wasn't going to be good for me in the long run. Towards the end of 2020 I started looking for other jobs that I could enjoy but would also enable me to make enough that I could start actually saving money. I finally found something, and it would change everything. I decided to make a huge sacrifice in my current life to ensure myself a better life in the future. I took a job as an Over The Road Truck Driver. I got out of the duplex I had been renting for the last 8 years, I put everything I owned in storage, took my two beautiful German Shepherds to my mother's house, and hit the road. By staying on the road and living in the truck it saves me 99% of my monthly bills, but I only get back home about 15 days out of the year. I am pouring everything I have into this job in order to build enough capital to get the ball rolling for my career in real estate. In the beginning of 2021 I started using the 11 hours I was driving every day to further my education on real estate by listening to every podcast uploaded from BP (500+ episodes about 1hr each) and a couple others, and reading all the material I can when I'm not driving. I joined the BP community this week (4/24/2021) in order to build a network and surround myself with smart, successful, and experienced people. Not only does the BP community offer a wealth of knowledge, it is also a place that you can find support from finding local REIA meetings to help crunching numbers to help making new connections and forming new partnerships. When I make my first big move into real estate, I want to be armed with as many tools as I can hold and hit the ground running so that I can not only be successful in my life, but also bring that success to and share it with everyone involved by being honest, transparent, and fair in everything I do.
