I started investing in real estate about 7 years ago when my wife and I bought our future retirement home in a community much warmer than Iowa, and then rented it out to pay the bills. Since then, we've purchased more single family homes, six small apartment buildings and four duplexes. Living in an extremely rural area, most of my properties are 75+ miles from my home. Experience: I currently own (or co-own) and manage 39 units: 32 multi-family units and 7 SFR. One is a vacation rental which I wouldn't do again.
