Darryl Smith

I'm a single father, with a teenage daughter. I have been working as a patent attorney since 1992, mostly for electronics and software companies. I have been working at VMware since 2003 and I took a management position within the Legal Department in 2009. I grew up in Orange County, CA, and mostly lived there until 1994, when I moved up to Silicon Valley. I lived in upstate New York for 3 school years when getting my law degree. Our favorite vacation spots, for my daughter and me, are Yosemite, Hawaii, San Diego and Orlando. Experience: I have purchased 7 properties over the years. I currently own my main home in San Jose, a small vacation home at Pine Mountain Lake and 2 single family rental homes in the Phoenix area. Real Estate Goals: I have a day job that I enjoy and that pays well, so I'm not looking to quit. I want to purchase more rental properties for long term income during retirement and ultimately for my daughter, especially after I pay off the mortgages. I don't need rental income now. And I don't have much free time to pursue my real estate interests. Currently Seeking: I want to find a good location for my next rental properties, find a good real estate agent in that area, find good long-term investment properties and find a good management company. I'd also like some guidance as to whether my approach is a good one, considering my goals, or if another approach would be better.
