I have a degree in acct and finance and work as a retail auditor as my day job. We fell into being rental owners when my son was diagnosed with cancer 5 years ago. We had to spend several months in Rochester, MN for his treatments. It was cheaper to pay two mortgages than it was to pay for a furnished rental and there were very few that could handle our family of 5. We bought a property that worked for our family at the time and when my son went into remission, we moved back to the cities and started renting. That was 2.5 years ago. My current employer just went public and is changing our comp from commission to salary+bonus. This could mean as much as a 50% cut in pay. Hoping to leverage our current property and gain more knowledge (and properties) to mitigate the pay cut and continue to support my family.
