I am a stay a home dad who buys mostly long term rentals on the side. I also have a couple airbnb's to keep me occupied since the long term rentals are pretty much on auto pilot. I was born in Hawaii, grew up in Berkeley, CA, lived in Eugene, Or, Chicago, and Boston. I moved to NJ in 2006 and have lived in Jersey City/Hoboken since 2012. So I've seen a lot of market appreciation in my life. I mostly invest in Philly because I see it as the last affordable city along the coasts. However, I have recently begun looking at investing in syndications. So looking to connect with sponsors who are looking for investors. Target is nationwide for syndications. My previous life (before I quit to be home with kids) was finance, so I've come to hate paying interest. I like the liability side of my life to be simple and the asset side to be complex. I realize leverage can help to a modest extent, but I'm conservative enough to only purchase with fixed rate conforming/jumbo loans. We have decent income so we tend to subscribe to the get rich slowly mentality of real estate. Plus, with my previous background in the stock market, our benchmark tends to be cash on cash returns of greater than 10% (rough long term expected return of stocks) with minimal amount of actual work to be done on the properties.
