I have never invested in real estate and actually have been discouraged from it by my financial advisor. He cautioned about the risk and liability of that " bad renter". I actually have witnessed both my parents and my I laws having a small number of rentals and it worked for them. However , I also witnessed them working for the rental on a number of occasions as well. I think that getting the right properties could work to diversify some investments and also the idea of vacation rentals seems appealing to provide income as well as potential short stay opportunities in certain areas with reduced costs.
