I am currently a full-time mortgage loan originator, been with the same direct to consumer lender since 11/2011. My entire work history is real estate related. Way back in the late 1990s, I got myself a summer job during high school working for a real estate attorney. I became a title searcher/paralegal and worked my way through college and beyond for over 12 years. When I was 18, while helping my parents with their investment property purchase, I was "inspired" to become a real estate agent (well, frustration caused by a lousy Realtor was turned into inspiration). I got my real estate license but did not practice until mid 2000s. When the market crashed, I found myself out of work as a paralegal and as a Realtor. But mortgage industry was quick to rebound with low interest rate. I got myself my MLO license and with a little help, someone took a chance on me and hired me as a loan officer with no mortgage sales experience. 9 years later I am still with the same company, with many repeat customers & investor clients, and I am now licensed in 27 states! I stumbled into being a landlord in 10/2007. My 1st home was a bad purchase. A new construction townhouse by Portrait Homes decreased in value and I couldn't bring myself to sell it at a loss. So that was my 1st rental property. Since then I have acquired 2 more SFHs (both REO properties, one was meant to be a flip but ended up being long term holding) and a condo unit (an unplanned purchase in a great location with good floor plan that I can see myself living in when I get older and downsize) I am looking to acquire another rental or two for income generation. I have been itching for a 2-4 unit and am considering out of state.
