Grew up in a small northern town where hard work and dedication has been taught to be the only way to get ahead in life. It has been great quality to have and I thank my parents and community for giving me that quality but I learned in late 2018 that hard work and dedication can only get you so far. Long story short I made some very bad uneducated investment decisions and lost half of my net worth which I spent the previous 10 years building, along with that I seriously injured my knee requiring multiple surgery and the combination of those 2 things put me in a very dark time in my life, feeling I had let my family down and felt like I was trapped and unable to go out and make things right with hard work do to my injury. After a few weeks of this I finally started to slowly feel better and started thinking OK how can make this right. I decided I would never make an uninformed decision again when it comes to our finances. I found Biggerpockets and my dedication quality kicked in and over the next year I listened to every episode and read multiple books on real estate investing before purchasing our first buy and hold in Oct 2019. I am glad to say in the first 6 months of investing I recouped all my losses from the previous investments and over the next 6 months more than doubled my net worth and in the next 4 years a have reached the 10x mark. Looking back at everything even though it was one of the hardest times I've gone through I am thankful it happened because it has lead me to where I am today and I owe a lot of that to Biggerpockets.
