I'm a passive investor who is using crowdfunding platforms to create an "engine" for my retirement. I realized some time ago that the stock market is not a good vehicle for retirement because it does not produce consistent income (as evidenced by our wild ride in 2018). However, I don't have the time or energy to directly invest in real estate as I have a demanding day job, so I've turned to passive investing via crowdfunding. I've been migrating a portion of my IRA portfolio into crowdfunded real estate since early 2018, with about 25% of the funds directed to long term equity, 25% to preferred equity, and 50% to either commercial or residential debt. This investment mix will provide enough monthly income for me to retire while also allowing for long term growth as well.
