Brand new and looking to learn for the future. Currently in grad school at UW-Madison, where I'll end up with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in May '17. My interest in real estate is as a means to obtain financial freedom. I will have a good job after graduating, but I do not want to spend the next 30 years chasing retirement and living paycheck to paycheck. I started learning more about real estate investing and it speaks to me in a lot of different ways. The biggest thing that I like about it is that I can work for myself, and the amount of effort I put into it will directly relate to what I get out of it, and there are no ceilings. Physical therapy is a great job to have, but it is still a "job" and will always come with limitations on what I can get out of the time I put in. I want to get to the point where I can work as a PT part time for the enjoyment of it, and have real estate be my primary source of income via rental properties or flips. PT school is expensive and I will have a lot of loans to pay off after graduating. I am currently juggling whether I should work as a contract/travel PT and maximize my income to aggressively pay off my loans within 5 years, or put minimum payments toward loans and aggressively save for real estate investment funds to get the (what I hope will be) snowball rolling.
