Someone likes your post, they can vote for it. That and if you do good stuff like reporting spammers, you can get increased influence. You can also lose it for being bad. The sticky at the top of this forum pretty much explains it.

We should hopefully have all of the influence actions added by the end of the upcoming week. I'm also hoping we'll have the rest of the planned forum improvements completed by then as well.

BiggerPockets may even come out of Beta then . . .

Wikipedia has a pretty good writeup of the software release life cycle, which spells out how Alpha, Beta, etc. works as far as software is concerned.

When we emerge out of our Beta mode, we will do so with the confidence that all major bugs have been righted, and that the platform is stable. I believe Gmail is still in Beta after many years.

That said, we've always got fun stuff up our sleeves. :wink:
