How do I match the current textured ceiling?

Hey guys,

I saw a house just now and am curious about something. It has an ugly, old fashion floursent light. If I want recessed lights put in, I will need need ceilings. The ceiling has a texture to it from the builder (house built in 2004). How do I get it all to match? Thanks!!

If you are just matching a hole or a spot and the new stuff is "too" white ...........due to age, weather, etc....i like to spit a little tobacoo juice in the mud to make it match up.

a decent contractor should be able to match it pretty well when he sprays it...if not, you can always wet and scrape that one room, and re-texture...this way, that one room will be the same, and you probably wont notice different textures in different rooms unless the contract puts no effort in matching

Is it a flip or a rental?   Nice rental or low end?  If this is a flip or high-end rental, you may well what to do what Will suggests and just re-do the whole room.  For lower end rentals this probably isn't critical.

As Jon state, several textures are hard to match. I would compare costs between a strip and new texture for the one room with the cost to strip the Target area and blend. You may find the increased cost of the entire strip is not much more and u don't have blend problems.
