Same as bandit signs, as @James Wise said.

But I've only gotten one call over the course of a year from a couple of vehicles I had signs on. And it is kind of impossible to scale.

James, what has your response rate been like?

@Larry Turowski

I receive several calls a day from signage but that includes multiple vehicles, 6 employees wearing T-Shirts daily & signage in around 100 yards.

marketing is not something that pays for itself overnight. It works when you are putting yourself out there in front of people over and over and over

Have to be on top of mind all the time.

Whatever you write keep it to a minimum.

Too many words will mean smaller text making it harder to read.

Use high-contrast for clarity.

Get round corners on your car magnets, this will help with cracking.

Car magnets are NOT call generators.  They serve as a good extension of your branding.

Car and truck wraps generate more calls.  Trucks that have the call to action on the back generate more calls as well because people sit there looking at the "sign" (back of the truck) in traffic.

I've gotten more people to ask me about my business (e.g., standing in line at a store) when I wear a SHIRT or JACKET with the business name on it.  But rarely does anyone ask me about it based up the car magnets alone.  I like them for branding - just don't expect them to work like bandit signs or billboards.

I have magnets on my car.  I have been stopped in parking lots and asked for a card countless times.

The first ones I got were from vista print and they were full color.  The ink/paint started flaking off within months and they were unusable within a year.  Really bad quality.

The second ones I got were one color cut vinyl.  They have lasted a few years (and they are cheaper).  I got them on eBay.

My logo works well with just one color.  That was actually one of my parameters when I had it designed.

 James, I'm interested in how you get your signs in that many yards?? Do you approach the home owners door by door? Do you just plant and run? Do you mail out an opportunity to put your sign there & pay them?

 Ahhh. Yeah, it's a good idea to utilize that! Made me think of a good idea to ask permission from home owners to place my sign there.

@Mark Brogan,

Yes - Few words in large letters that can be read across a highway, large phone number.

Try for a "vanity" number, something easily remembered. The forum doesn't allow me to post examples in digits, so let's try "eight four four, two seven two - seven two seven two", or "eight seven, FOR CASH" or "eight six six, BUY EASY".

Get the idea?

When you are just beginning....would you begin my getting a business name to get the car wraps, shirts, business cards etc?  If yes, what is the most streamlined way to do that?

When first starting you should go to meetup groups and start networking with other people
