Why I rebranded from the "we buy houses" model

So around the middle of 2016, I made the choice to start a new company name and stop using "tyler buys houses". I had my business up to a point where it was replacing my previous W-2 income and I could see the light at the end of the tunnel to do more. Why did I make the decision to lose whatever brand equity, SEO, and recognition I had to start over again?

To me it all boiled down to 1 question, customer perception. As real estate home buying companies and investors going direct to seller becomes more common, the public gets more and more acquainted with the good and the bad of the industry. I wanted to avoid that bad as much as possible. I wanted to create a legit looking business and operate like one. Not to say you can't do that under the "we buy houses" brand, it just might be a little more difficult now or in the future.

That is another thing that got me thinking...."in the future". Real estate investing has become very popular over the last 10 years. It might even be at its peak. Seminars and gurus and magic lists and super spreadsheets are floating around every where like other industries. The coaching industry is maybe the final piece of the puzzle to fully mature before the peak hits.

Anyways, more and more people will jump into the industry. Seeing as how the entry bar is extremely low, lots of bad comes in with the good. People make mistakes which affect the reputation of others to some degree. I know those newbies will be taking the easy path at first and no shame to them. They'll pick an easy "we buy houses" brand. They'll make their mistakes and either persevere or quit. I don't want to be linked to their failures.

That in a nutshell is most of the reasons I started W Properties. I intend to stay local in Oklahoma and continue to try and separate myself from others.
