Selling or Educating- What is your real estate agent doing?

When I compose my blog posts, I don't take a lot of time to plan or think about what I am going to write. I believe that is a good thing. The words you are reading are a direct flow from my brain.

My motivation for writing is no to sell you a property or to sell you on some course I have put together. I write because I want everyone to get closer to accomplishing goals every day. I want everyone to enjoy the feeling success. In life, and in business.

If my observations, tips, or mistakes help in that process, I feel fulfilled.

Today I want to share some quick thoughts on "selling" and "educating." I see these two styles being used by agents daily, and if you are a new investor, it's important you can separate the two.

As a new investor, you will start your journey with little education, and as you go out into the world speaking with different agents, you may become frustrated because a lot of them will not return your calls, refuse to write offers, or make you feel rushed throughout the process, among other things.

Confidence is born from education and understanding.

So many times I see new investors on BP posting deals and asking for someone to evaluate it for them and give a yay or nay on whether they should proceed with an offer. My question is:

Where is the trusted advisor that should be educating this investor?

I love BP, and the resources it provides, but asking complete strangers to evaluate your deal and tell you to proceed, or not, is dangerous. It's possible that everyone giving an answer is in a different market, and may have different goals than you. So the advice is going to be very skewed, and you could end up flushing yourself down the toilet with a bad deal that does not fit your specific needs. 

The first thing your agent should do is find out exactly what your end game is. Then work to get you there. If your agent doesn't have a clue about the intricacies of investing, and doesn't educate you. You will always be hesitant to pull the trigger.

A real estate agent who does not make you feel confident is just selling you. Plain and simple fact.

Education and quality advising will breed confidence. If you are about to submit an offer, and you are not positively confident, there is something wrong. Take some time to evaluate your situation. Pivot if necessary.
