This review is way overdue. We originally sought help from a property management team towards the end of 2022 when we needed to find renters ASAP. Sean and his team were so efficient and thankfully they were able to help us find a renter. Anytime something comes up, the HI Roots Realty team is so quick to communicate with both the tenant and us. They are always on it right away!! Sean and his team are so knowledgeable and experienced, so we trust that they have our best interests in mind. We have had nothing but a great experience with them. Definitely would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a reliable, knowledgeable, and trustworthy property manager.

In this challenging Oahu housing market with plenty of scams and shady companies, HI Roots Realty stands out as an awesome, trustworthy company. I rented through them for nearly five years - from the beginning they were always highly communicative, transparent, and professional, and the agents who came out to do yearly inspections very friendly. They were very quick to address any maintenance issues and replace a washing machine. I was nervous about ending my lease early, but they were understanding and got the apartment back up on the market and rented out with no inconvenience to me by the day after my move out date so that I didn’t have to pay any extra rent, and even refunded part of the early termination fee. If you’re looking for a rental and end up with this company, consider yourself lucky as you’re in great hands!

Writing this review in hopes this does not happen to another family. We rented a property from this company site unseen, as we were not on the island at that time. The rental rep gave a video walk through and sent pictures. In the walk through and pictures the property appeared to be in good livable condition. When we moved in we were shocked that the property was in such bad shape. This was not disclosed to us from HI Roots Realty. -The yard was overgrown and covered with years of overgrown plants and weeds. Where bugs and pests lived. -The wrap around lanai and the overhead have holes and rotten wood with signs of water damage and termite damage that was never repaired. -Windows were completely rotten, we could not open and close the windows and bugs were always getting in through the gaps in the wood frame and the falling apart screens. -Gaps in the doors that lead to the outside where bugs and pests get in the home. The back door did not have a lock but rather a hook to keep it somewhat closed. -The skylight leaked during heavy rains. And the ceiling over the main living area leaked on our furniture during a heavy rain. Our renters insurance claim was denied to replace damaged furniture, due to the condition of the home. -Frass all over the house from severe termite damage that was never repaired. -Two doors leading to the back patio from two bedrooms were not even insulated, but rather a paper like screen, where cockroaches, centipedes, rats and mosquitoes entered daily. A centipede once was on my son's bed in the middle of the night! -Mold and mildew showing all over the ceiling, growing showing proof that it was painted over and never repaired. -Mold and mildew damaged much of our belongings. -When we moved in, the three garbage cans were filled to the top with maggots. We had to take our garbage to the dumps until the rental company cleared it. -Bathrooms are really outdated and falling apart. Over time living in the house we all experienced major health issues especially our minor son. He started getting flare ups of an eczema and asthma, which he never had before. Many Dr apt and medications never helped. We went on a three week vacation and all symptoms were clear. Once we returned the symptoms returned. Showed Dr. pictures of property and stated that allergens in the house lead to illness. That is when we had to leave the property. At move out the rental company was extremely rude and unprofessional. Then charged us erroneous fees to deduct from our security deposit, including a garbage dump fee of two cans for over $280 when it was daily garbage from the week as the pick up dates rotate for those cans. And we shared the property with another unit who also uses the same garbage cans. Emailed the company twice that they can not charge for normal wear and tear and can not charge an outrageous amount for small listed items. Never heard back from them. Horrible experience, and thankfully in a nice clean home where our son is no longer suffering. ***In response to the company’s response.. you really show how unprofessional and unethical you really are with a gaslighting response rather than do the right thing. Absolutely horrible behavior and obviously we were not wrong as the property is still sitting for rent as it’s in horrible condition. Covering up mildew and mold by painting over it as a quick fix and making tenants such is extremely dangerous and due to your gaslighting response, I’m not surprised that cutting corners is an acceptable solution in your company.
