I am not new to biggerpockets but I am new to Austin. I have now lived in North Austin for 3 months, moving here from Los Angeles. I am originally from Utah though. I currently have 3 SFH's in Kansas City that are doing great. I researched for a year before my first purchase then bought 2 more about a year later.
Currently, I am renting to get familiar with the area. All of my SFH's are nicer than my apartment which saves me a lot of money to put towards the next investment. Once my lease is up, I plan on buying a 2-4 plex and house hacking. I also am looking into getting my real estate license while continuing my W2 job. Now that I am settled from the move I look forward to meeting many of you at the local meet ups. If I can be any help to anyone don't hesitate to reach out.

Just a warning, house hacking doesn't work in most of Austin. The income/rent equation doesn't pan out. You have to go very far from town to get it to even balance out.

Welcome. FYI I used champions real estate school for exam prep here and it did the trick. Leander ISD is fertile grounds for investors so you are in the right place.

@Brendon K. I have seen the same thing, especially with the high property taxes in Texas. I may not live rent free but if it is still a lower amount than renting I consider it winning.
@Chris Sweeney I have seen your name mentioned in several threads. I hope to meet you sometime soon. I was just looking at RE schools I will probably go with Champions, thanks for the recommendation.

2-4 units in Austin are very few and far between, in any budget, but they exist! If you want to chat, my partner and I are always looking for new investors to meet up with or converse with about real estate.
