The Consequences of Not Asking For Help

“Asking for help with shame says: You have the power over me. Asking with condescension says: I have the power over you. But asking for help with gratitude says: We have the power to help each other.”

- Amanda Palmer

Are you that kind of person who shoves away someone who’s about to help you? It’s either h you still take pride in yourself or you’re too shy to tell someone you need assistance.

Honestly, each one of us fears that asking for help might compromise our reputation. You probably have “asthenophobia” or the fear of looking weak or incompetent toward other people.

We do all have a breaking point; we need to accept it. Because the truth is, we can all be a casualty of our own ego.

That said, let’s breakdown the consequences we’ll have to face for failing to ask for help.

1. You’re not growing

Hating the fact that you’re asking for help can put your personality growth to a halt. This is because it makes you miss out on a lot of opportunities that yield amazing results. That moment you ask for assistance is a surefire way to learn from other people. So, not being able to take this opportunity is already inimical in itself.

2. You’ll be lost.

No one’s perfect, right? We can’t assemble a toy track without reading the manual. The same goes for dealing with our own problems. If we don’t seek aid from others, you’ll end up being lost. No doubt, asking for help will lead you to better clarity and enlightenment with your problems.

3. You’re being antisocial

“No man is an island.” This quotation from John Donne applies to everyone. When you’re open to collaborating with others in solving a particular problem, you're not just solving it, but you’re also building a relationship with others. On the other hand, you also give people a good reason not to approach you. After all, to reject an offer is an insult.

No one was born to be perfect. Moreover, no one has ever made to the top without someone's help. There’s no shame in asking for help, and that’s because it’s a way for you to nurture your personality. At the end of the day, you still need to rely on someone to lessen the burdens you have right now.
