Tips for Handling Packages for Multifamily Tenants

As e-shopping becomes increasingly popular, it is only proper for multifamily property owners to handle parcels properly.

Your multifamily should be prepared for a steady flow of packages coming to the front door of your property whether or not it’s the holiday season.

Here are a few things you might want to consider.

Plan ahead

As you anticipate packages to arrive in your property, it’s best to plan with your staff on what to do beforehand.

Set rules for your tenants on when and how a package should be received. You might also want to consider creating rules for packages that are compromised or damaged when it arrives at your multifamily.

Additionally, train your staff in implementing these rules and precautions as well in case any of your tenants will need assistance with retrieving their packages.

Keep the packages in one area

Having an area designated for packages makes it easier to organize them when they arrive at your multifamily.

Perhaps you could make it easier by installing a locker area for your tenants to access early on. This makes it easier to receive not only mail but also packages for the holidays and beyond.

If that isn’t possible, then a small but spacious area to store and to receive packages like a large basement or storage facility should do.

Additionally, make sure that it is secured and one of your staff is in charge of handling what goes in and out.

Have a way to notify tenants

You can’t just receive packages for your residents and expect them to just know when to come down and get them themselves.

Having a reliable notification system for your multifamily would inform tenants when to retrieve their packages right away instead of them piling up wherever you keep them.

Try something like leaving a note at the door of their unit. You can also try more creative options like a unique doorbell buzzer code for when a package arrives to see if that works in getting your tenant’s attention.

Whether it’s a gift or a UPS package, making sure that your tenants will receive their deliveries is important if you want to keep them happy.
