4 Distractions That Slow You Down At Work

“Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps, they need to take to get them closer to the fulfillment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them.”

- Jack Canfield

Are you dreaming to be the Employee of the Month? What could possibly go wrong for you not to achieve that? Well, unless there are a ton of distractions to worry about.

No matter who you are and what you do, distractions can easily offset your gains. That said, it’s crucial for a passionate person to deal with daily distractions.

But for now, let’s look at the distractions that are affecting your performance and productivity.

1. Social Networks

With Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and Pinterest, we just can’t get a break from the digital world. We are continuously active in every social network and it's becoming an alarming issue especially at the workplace.

Employees’ urge to checking their social networks prevents them from completing more meaningful tasks. This distraction causes their work efficiency to slow down.

2. Hunger

Do you get easily distracted by hunger pangs? An employee who has been starving for too long can lose focus and may suffer from a decrease in productivity.

A healthy, well-nourished individual can work effectively and efficiently. Remember that our energy source comes from the food we eat, so it’s important to eat three square meals a day.

3. Text Messages

Is your phone attached to you like an integral organ of your body? If you’re a person who’s doing this like an addiction, you probably have “nomophobia.” We need to understand the impact that these mobile phones have on our work productivity. The temptation is there because we tend to check text messages, calls, and even emails through our phones. For sure, a person who’s multitasking with his phone can’t work efficiently.

4. Colleagues

Your colleagues are messing with your productivity, do you want to know why? The gossips, habits, and interruptions that they’re making decrease your productivity. Therefore, they are the major distractions in your office. What’s worse is that toxic environments will take a toll on your career.

Bottom Line

We know of these distractions and how they can kill our productivity. If we’re aiming for a good score on our resume, we must discipline ourselves. Of course, we know it’s hard to prevent these distractions, but we need to reflect and concentrate in order for us to achieve our goals.
