We all have goals, visions, and dreams. We all have things we want to accomplish with our lives, but we get stuck and give up on our pursuits. I’ve always been goal oriented, but I would typically only set little, incremental goals. One reason being that I was afraid of failure from setting a goal too far in the future or too big to achieve. So I only set goals for myself that I was sure were attainable. I missed out on a lot of what life had for me by limiting myself that way.
As I got older, my fear of failure was replaced by the need to take care of my children. But I felt selfish for dreaming big, so I again held myself back. We all have blocks in our lives, things that stand in the way of us going at our goals with all we have. We can break out of the rut today though, and stop standing in our own way right now. It all starts within your mind.
Visualize a time when something fantastic happened to you, and celebrate it.
Think about a time when you were really happy, when you were overjoyed about something you did or something that happened to you. Really feel the emotion inside of you. Celebrate it! Jump up and down! Yell! This was an amazing experience in your life; really celebrate it, right now!
Write down all your goals with no inhibitions.
Now remember when you were young, and you would tell Santa Claus or your parents what you wanted for Christmas? You didn’t have any inhibitions, you just blurted out everything you wanted. Take a minute right now and write, “I want.” Don’t let anything limit you, just write freely. It could be a new house, a new car, quitting your job, writing a book, or starting a new business. It could be getting married, having children, or financial freedom.
Pick one and describe in detail.
Look at your list and pick just one. Describe it in as much detail as you can. If it’s a new car, what does it look like? What color is it? What make and model is it? If financial freedom is your goal, what does that look like? It’s not enough to say, “I want to be a millionaire.” Vague goals won’t get you where you want to be. You need to know what a millionaire looks like, the car they drive, where they live, how they spend their time.
Celebrate that goal as if you’ve already accomplished it!
Now stand up wherever you are and close your eyes. Think about what you just wrote down, that house, that relationship, that business. Visualize everything about that goal, that dream that you want to achieve more than anything, and think about how that feels. Think about how you’re going to feel when you achieve it. You just started that business, you’re rolling down the street in your new car, you’re signing your own books at a meet and greet. Celebrate it right now! Celebrate your success with your whole body and mind! Spend a few minutes just embracing that feeling and that celebration.
Write down 3 action items you can do immediately.
While you’re still in the excitement of what you just did, quickly write down 3 action items that you need to do to get that goal. Write down 3 things that you can begin working on right now to get yourself closer to your dreams.
You really can accomplish anything that you dream, and it truly does start within. Keep your list with you and read it regularly. I read my goals every morning when I wake up and again before I close my eyes at night. Its not enough to say you want things out of your life, you need to genuinely feel it and read them every day. When you keep your goals in the forefront of your mind, you drill them down into you, and you are going to get the things that you want.
